At least one Weatherford parent spent several harrowing hours looking for her two sons earlier this week, but it all turned out well and even came with a lesson learned.
According to the Weatherford Daily News, the two boys, ages 9 and 10, were found safe and unharmed at Southwestern Oklahoma State University – where it was warm.
The mother says the family had just moved from one location to another, near-by location in town and the boys simply forget which school bus stop get off. They followed their routine and got off their bus where they had always gotten off – at their old house.
By the time they figured it out, the bus was long gone so they started walking to their new home.
When they didn’t arrive home on the bus and weren’t at their old house, their friends’ houses nor their school, Mom called police for help.
In all, principals, teachers and a seven-member team of Weatherford police officers were scouring the area for the boys who were found inside a building on the SWOSU campus. Even Facebook was used to solicit help in finding the tots.
It seems they’d simply gotten cold on their walk home and ducked inside to a warm up a bit.
Weatherford Detective Chris Cote took the opportunity to remind everyone that it’s a good idea to have a back-up plan of having a safe place to go such as a neighbor or close friend. And, learn emergency phone numbers.
