A Georgia woman is recuperating in an Oklahoma City hospital following a Tuesday morning semi accident on Interstate 40 in Beckham County.
67-year-old Kathy Bookins of Dahlonega, Georgia was admitted in stable condition at St. Anthony Hospital with head and arm injuries following the accident about 6:08 am on the interstate about a mile east of Elk City’s Main Street exit.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Bookins was a passenger in the sleeper unit of a 2020 Volvo semi tractor and trailer driven by 72-year-old Peggy Blount of Ottalla, Alabama. Blount was treated and released by Great Plains Regional Medical Center.
The report also says that the semi was westbound when it departed the roadway to the right striking a crash attenuator on the shoulder.
Blount, the driver was wearing a seat belt while Bookins, in the sleeper unit, was not.
The condition of the driver is reported as apparently normal and the accident remains under investigation.
