Two people have been hospitalized following two separate wrecks in Western Oklahoma.
54-year-old Judith Smith of Reno, Nevada is reported to be in good condition at OU Medical Center after being air-transported there from Great Plains Regional Medical Center in Elk City following an accident about 12:30 am Sunday morning on Interstate 40 about two miles west of Sayre.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Smith arrived in critical condition with hand and leg injuries.
The driver of the 2005 Nissan Altima in which Smith was traveling, 61-year-old Dennis Lofton of Vallejo, California was treated and released by a local hospital.
The Altima departed the interstate, struck the cable barrier and turned over on it’s side, pinning Smith inside.
The cause of the accident is listed as being sleepy. Both were wearing seat belts.
A 35-year-old Mangum man, Brody Lee Payne, has been recuperating in a Wichita Falls hospital after an accident Monday afternoon in Greer County.
The OHP report indicates that Payne’s 1999 Ford departed the left side of State Highway 34 where it impacted a concrete culvert. It then traveled about 460 feet where it turned over one full time, coming to rest on it’s wheels.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. The accident happened about a mile south of Mangum.
The Ford was equipped with seat belts, but they were not in use.
