A warrant has been issued for a Sentinel man after he failed to appear for a recent preliminary hearing on a charge of felony discharging a firearm into a dwelling. The alleged incident also included a short stand-off with law enforcement after a family member locked herself in a back room of the residence.

The reason 38-year-old William Andrew Scott Cooper failed to appear could be because he’s jailed in another county, Greer County, on a different charge. Regardless, Washita County has issued a $100-thousand dollar bond for his arrest.

Cooper is set for judgment and sentence in Greer County on December 5 on two counts of domestic abuse – assault and battery.

Once that case is adjudicated, Cooper may find his way back to Washita County to face the discharging of a firearm charge as well as possession of a firearm after former felony conviction, both filed as a result of an incident on July 9 of this year.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Cooper, a convicted felon, had allegedly shot out a window to the residence located on East 1290 Road in Sentinel and was “yelling at things” and talking about killing people. The court document says he had opened the blinds of the home and looked outside while pacing in the room.

Prior to officer’s arrival at the residence, Sentinel police had set up a staging area for officers in route to assist in what they believed at the time could be an active shooter situation.

Several law officers arrived on the scene and used a loud speaker to call Cooper out of the house. After several commands, he walked out the front door with no incident.

A .22 caliber Ruger semi-automatic pistol was allegedly found on the dining room table.

The family member who had locked herself in a back room was found unhurt by a Washita County deputy and still on the phone with 9-1-1 dispatch.

Cooper has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim and no possession of firearms.
