An Elk City man was sentenced recently after pleading guilty to second degree burglary, assault and battery with force likely to produce death and larceny of a vehicle after hitting an elderly woman over the head with a shovel.
The incident took place in August 2018 when 26-year-old Michael Wayne Louis hid on the victim’s property, hit her in the head with the shovel and proceeded to break into her home and steal her car.
After an intense manhunt that saw the collaboration between the Beckham County Sheriff’s Department, the District II Drug Task Force, The Elk City Police Department, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Louis was apprehended the next day.
Louis was sentenced to 30 years in prison with all suspended for the first 20 years. Louis will receive credit for time served since his arrest over a year ago.
