Weatherford voters have nixed their latest tax proposal.
Citizens voted down on Tuesday a city-lead request to raise the local sales by a half-cent in order to pay for improvements to area roadways, specifically Lyle Road, one of the city’s main north-south thoroughfares.
In the special election on Tuesday, voters turned the proposal down 53% to 47%.
Out of the 632 people who turned ballots in, 297 voted to raise the tax from four-cents to 4-1/2 cents while 335 voted against raising it.
Mayor Mike Brown told Paragon Communications prior to the vote that the extra half-penny would raise about $6-million dollars over the next six years and would pay for most all of the expenses of Lyle Road, one of many that needs attention.
