A Washita County jury has found Kathryn Lynn Hicks guilty of murder.
The 46-year-old Hicks, from Lawton, heard the jury announce the verdict around midnight in the Washita County courtroom where she was being tried for murder in the first degree – malice aforethought in the shooting death of a Cordell man in 2015.
The jury of nine women and five men, seated last Wednesday began hearing testimony on Thursday in the trail that lasted four days, however, the verdict was reached in about two-hours and 20-minutes.
Hick’s estranged boyfriend’s body was found in his home in the 400 block of South Orient on November 30, 2015. Mike Beach had been shot twice with a 9-millimeter gun and his 2002 Chevy Tahoe was missing.
The woman he’d introduced to friends as his girlfriend in the weeks before his death, Hicks, was also missing. According to a probable cause affidavit, the two had met through an internet service called Craig’s List. Beach reportedly answered her ad on the internet website.
Later on in the relationship, he’d also reportedly confided with friends that he thought at one point she had tried to kill him.
She’s been held in the Washita County Jail without bond ever since she was transferred back from Oklahoma City.
According to a clerk in the court clerk’s office, the jury began deliberations about 9:20 last night and told court officials they were finished and had reached a verdict about 11:45 pm.
Sentencing has been set for Thursday, September 28 at 1:30.
