A Clinton police patrol unit was damaged during an interesting two day period that kept police busy late last week.

According to the Clinton Daily News, the two days that began Thursday evening included an attempted robbery, an Elk City runaway who claimed she’d been raped and a stolen Clinton School’s SUV.

No money was reportedly taken in the attempted robbery of the Dollar General store in Clinton. Officials say the incident followed a similar one at the United Supermarket in Weatherford where a person – believed to be the same suspect – was involved in both crimes, coming up empty-handed both times.

The 15-year-old runaway is now believed to have been making up her story about being both a runaway and being raped.

Police are thought to have been looking for her when they spotted the missing SUV. The vehicle was pursued a short distance before a Custer County Deputy conducted vehicle tactical maneuver sometimes called a PIT, pursuit intervention technique by which a pursuing car can force a fleeing vehicle to abruptly turn sideways causing the driver to lose control.

That’s when Clinton police cruiser was hit. The sheriff’s unit sustained minor damage as did the school’s SUV during the 5 am joy ride and chase.

Besides the 13-year-old male driver, there were three other boys and one girl, all aged 12 or 13.

A Clinton police spokesman says the juveniles are being turned over the the state’s juvenile services unit and the crime to the district attorney’s office.

The van was stolen from the school bus barn.
