An Elk City woman remains in jail on a $5-thousand-dollar initial appearance bond for possession of illegal drugs.

A man with fresh injection marks on each of his arms found with her at the time of her arrest was released. The man was identified as being currently on supervised probation for past possession charges.

29-year-old Melissa Anne Bays is in the Beckham County Detention Center today after being recently arrested in the bathroom area at the Elk Creek RV Park on East 20th Street.

According to a police report, officers were called to the park in reference to trespassers in the public bathroom. Once inside, police found Bays and another person, a 32-year-old man who both told police that they’d not stayed the night in the bathroom.

While searching the facility, officers found a syringe inside a trashcan. Both denied ownership, but when asked to pull up the sleeves of their jackets, the man had two fresh injection locations, one on each of his arms.  He told police that he was on probation out of Leflore County.  Police were unable to locate any illegal contraband in his belongings.  He was advised that he was trespassing and told he was not allowed to return.

Inside Bays belongings, police allegedly found a metal spoon, a syringe and a small plastic baggy containing a powdery, white substance. She was handcuffed and placed in a patrol unit.

When Bays overheard one officer tell another that the white powder would be tested for the presence of Methamphetamine, Bays allegedly told police that it would test positive for meth.

Later inside the police station, the substance tested positive for meth.

Bays is due in district court for a preliminary hearing on February 14.
