No one was hurt in a Cordell fire that has destroyed a retail shop and salon.
According to a fire report, the fire that began around 8:15 pm Wednesday night at Twisted Sisters destroyed the single, one-story building. No one was inside at the time of the fire located one block south of Main Street on Glenn English Street that houses a women’s clothing store and beauty salon.
Estimated damages haven’t been calculated by insurance adjusters, but Cordell Fire Chief Seth Slaughterback says units were able to keep the fire from spreading to other area downtown buildings however Twisted Sisters was a complete loss.
The chief says the structure had two ceilings which hindered their efforts.
Slaughterback says fire units were on the scene several hours.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a florescent light fixture that had excessive heat damage to the ballast. The owner told firefighters that she had smelled something electrical around 5 pm.
