Counterfeit money has been spotted in Western Oklahoma.
According to the Weatherford Daily News, the bogus money was passed Monday in Weatherford and a local merchant contacted police.
According to a Weatherford Police Department report, one single, counterfeit bill was discovered in the business district in the 300 block of West Main during the noon hour.
A Weatherford police detective says the counterfeit bill in question was paired with another bill. After being passed, the recipient became suspicious after observing the bills edge wasn’t “cut straight.”
Police believe the bogus bill was fairly new and hadn’t been passed around long and that it may have been passed by a frequent customer of the store though it’s only speculation at this point in the investigation.
A police spokesperson praised local merchants saying they seem to do a good job of paying attention to the money they are presented.
Those with questions about possible fake bills are urged to contact their local police departments.
