By Paul Joseph, Paragon Communications News Director –

Cordell High School and Oklahoma Blood Institute, OBI, is inviting all area residents to take the blood Donor Challenge, Thursday at Washita County Activities Center in their main room.

Blood given with OBI will save the lives of patients in area hospitals such as Cordell Memorial Hospital.

Healthy adults can typically give and are welcome from 9 am until 2 pm this Thursday. Each donor will receive a blood donor challenge T-shirt.

President and CEO of OBI, John Armitage says some friends and neighbors face the challenge of simply staying alive every day and this upcoming drive should challenge those who have never given “life-saving” blood to step up and join the movement.

Armitage adds that many donors typically give only once or twice a year and that he wants to challenge them to give more often.

OBI relies on donations from an average of 1-thousand donors each day to meet the needs of patients in 154 Oklahoma hospitals it exclusively serves. One single donation can save as many as three lives.

Through a special initiative to support the Global Blood Fund, any donor can forgo the T-shirt offered in appreciation for giving. In turn, OBI will make a contribution to the Global Blood Fund, a charity providing supplies and equipment for blood centers in the world’s poorest countries.

OBI is the ninth largest, non-profit blood center in America, providing every drop of blood needed by patients in 158 state medical facilities including hospitals throughout Paragon Communications listening area.
