No one was hurt in a fire in Clinton that was contained to the garage of a residence.
Clinton Fire Chief Forrest Valentine says the Tuesday night blaze is believed to have started from a short in an electric cook stove that was housed in the garage.
Damage is estimated to be less than $10-thousand dollars and caused no structural damage to the home at 223 Rawlings Drive, just a lot of smoke and water damage.
Firefighters feel lucky that the fire was contained to the garage even though it had been a pretty good fire from the look of the damage, but it burned itself out from a lack of oxygen.
Valentine says the stove was plugged in at the time, but the homeowner told firefighters that she hadn’t cooked anything on the stove for the last several days. According to a report, it was plugged in when firefighters arrived.
The occupants had left the house to ran an errand and when they came home, they found the garage on fire and called the fire department.
The fire is thought to have started from the control panel in the stove.
The blaze was reported around 9 pm.
