An Elk City man goes on trial Friday on a first degree rape charge.

Jury selection begins in the morning at 9:30 am for 50-year-old Dwight Dean Jackson after the trial was earlier postponed by 24-hours.

Jackson, a previously convicted felon, was arrested Saturday, November 14, 2015 for the rape of a 12-year-old relative. He’s been in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $500-thousand dollar bond since his arrest last year.

According to a probable cause affidavit, at the time of the alleged incident, the juvenile told two friends at school who later went to a school counselor. That person notified family members and the principal who notified police.

The alleged incident reportedly happened on a Sunday afternoon at Jackson’s RV trailer on South Simpson Street in Elk City.

The court document says several items were later seized during the execution of a search warrant on the RV, items the juvenile described to investigators that only a person with intimate knowledge of Jackson would know.

Prior to being arrested, Jackson told investigators that any accusation that concerns him “touching” or “messing with” the alleged victim is a lie. X The investigator wrote in the affidavit that Jackson was unusually calm during the interview considering the allegations against him.

Jackson has been convicted of multiple felony crimes in the past including distribution of controlled substances, federal drug convictions, burglary and escape.

Up until his most recent arrest, he’s been on federal probation the last 10 years since his release in October of 2015 of last year following 17 years in a federal prison.
