A man listed as homeless by Elk City police is in the Beckham County Detention Center on a $10-thousand dollar bond for possession of drugs.
32-year-old Thomas Pennington was arrested Monday night in Elk City after police were called to a nearby convenience store on west 3rd Street in reference to a man walking around the store with a gun.
Upon arrival, police observed a man that matched the description given by the store walking away along with a woman. According to the police report, the man who later turned out to be Pennington, was observed to have a black object in his hand, but he threw the object toward the bottom of a shrub row just before he and the woman were ordered to the ground by the officer.
After detaining Thomas, the officer retrieved two items from the bushes, a black flashing and a black zippered container. A search of the container allegedly turned up two syringes, a small blue baggie containing three white, crystal rocks, a spoon, several small baggies with a white, crystal residue and a metal Marijuana smoking pipe with residue.
No firearm was discovered and the woman was released at the scene.
Pennington was arrested for possession of a CDS within 1-thousand feet of a school and two counts of possession of paraphernalia.
Later, the crystal substance field tested positive for methamphetamine and the pipe residue tested positive for THC.
No court date has been set.
