- Editor’s Note: The OSBI has just confirmed the identity of the deceased as Kenneth Greer of Erick, Oklahoma.
The investigation into a deadly explosion that killed one Erick resident should be wrapped up sometime this week, according to the Erick Police Chief Patrick Strange.
The chief says that the onsite investigation of the explosion in the 400 block of South Magnolia was wrapped up last Friday following the explosion that rocked Erick just after 11 pm on Thursday night.
Strange says, however, the case is now in the hands of both the medical examiner and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
One man, whose identity won’t be released until the state medical examiner’s office has made a positive identification, was killed in the blast. Neighbors, however, believe that the man could have been welding at the time of the explosion and may have had a leaky fuel tank.
Strange says no one else was hurt in the explosion. Earlier reports said another person could have been caught in the blast, but that person was located and found unharmed.
The chief says there was damage reported to surrounding buildings and other structures. He says it was a devastating explosion inside a back yard building.
Strange says he hopes to have the final pieces put together regarding exactly what happened by Friday, but admits investigators have found nothing to indicate narcotic activity or foul play.
Erick police requested the help on the State Medical Examiner’s office and OSBI on Friday.
