The multi-vehicle accident that took place Thursday night west of Weatherford during icy weather on Interstate 40 did hospitalize a Cordell woman.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 24-year-old Mariah Bardwell was west bound on I-40 when she failed to stop due to a wreck involving multiple vehicles ahead of her. The OHP says she collided with a semi driven by 46-year-old Rodriquez Gonzalez of Mexicali, Mexico who was uninjured.
Bardwell was pinned inside the vehicle for 15 minutes, ultimately being freed by a another driver. The report stated that she was transported to Weatherford Regional Hospital. It did not state her current condition.
In all, 10 vehicles that included two semis were either involved in wrecks or slid off Interstate 40 between Clinton and Weatherford as temperatures fell and freezing rain moved through the region Thursday night. The accidents forced officials to shut down the westbound lanes for several hours.
