One person is dead, another was treated and released while a third was uninjured in a car accident over the weekend on Interstate 40 in Canadian County.
The deceased, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was a passenger in a 2008 Chevy Cobalt driven by an Elk City man, 26-year-old Tristin K. Hancock.
Hancock was first taken by EMS to Canadian Valley Hospital where he was later transferred to Mercy in Oklahoma City. He was treated for a head injury.
The deceased was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident and taken to the medical examiner’s office in Oklahoma City. A check with Troop A in Oklahoma City failed to produce the name of the person who died in the accident about 2:04 am on Saturday morning. That name is, evidently, pending, still.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Hancock’s Cobalt was stopped in the center, eastbound lanes of the interstate while another vehicle, a 2019 Buick Encore driven by 21-year-old Katelyn Wood of Mustang was eastbound and also in the center lane. The report says Wood attempted to avoid the collision with the Cobalt, but struck the vehicle and the passenger that was standing outside of that vehicle.
The accident happened about a mile east of Cimarron Road in Yukon.
