By Paragon News Director Paul Joseph –

A new seed distribution center near Clinton is being finished just about in time for planting cotton.

The 65-hundred square foot building is an expansion into the area by West Gaines Seed Company out of Lubbock and will be managed by Michael Shackelford of Clinton who says it’s a new venture by the company to build distribution centers.

The new building is being constructed north of Clinton on US Highway 183.

Shackelford says West Gaines Seed is a subsidiary of Americot, also a Lubbock company.

He believes his distribution center will provide seed to farmers as far north as Kansas.

Shackelford, who is from Bessie – originally – has been in the AG consulting business for over a decade. He hopes to hire more people next year, but for right now, the staff will be very small.

Shackelford says the new Clinton seed center is the sixth distribution center built by West Gaines in the last couple of years.
