Elk City Man Gets 10 Years in Prison on Child Sex Crimes

An Elk City man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for a number of sex crimes committed against children.

47-year-old Evertt Swain Gordon Shingleton, Junior, recently pleaded no contest to five felonies and was sentenced to 25 years to serve in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections with all but 10 years dismissed.

He pleaded nolo contendre to two counts of lewd or indecent proposals to a child under 16, 1st degree rape, victim under 14, and lewd acts to a child under 16.

Shingleton was arrested from his home on South Van Buren Avenue on December 29, 2017 after a relative found him attempting to rape a 6-year-old family member.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the witness had earlier laid down but then walked into the kitchen to find Shingleton in the commission of a felony and pulled him off the child victim. She later called police.

Shingleton is ordered to have no contact with any of the victims or any child under the age of 18-year-old, is to follow special sex offender rules and receive supervised probation by the DOC. He’s additionally ordered to pay fines and court costs.
