The Beckham County Sheriff’s office confirmed today that they’re working a case involving human remains that were discovered near the North Fork of the Red River, a few miles west of Sayre.
Sheriff Derek Manning told Paragon News that the remains were reported to his office after they were discovered by men working on land adjacent to the river on Saturday morning.
He says one of his deputies was called to the area about mid-morning where he met the workers who discovered the remains. The deputy went with them to the location and secured the site until other law enforcement personnel could arrive to assist.
Unlike an earlier discovery of human remains near Mayfield this year, Manning says these are not prehistoric in nature, however, he adds that he can’t supply very much information about the recent discovery other than confirming that they are human and are contemporary in nature.
The Sheriff says his office has been working closely with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and their crime lab to process the scene which was finally released late Monday by the OSBI.
Manning admits that there’s been no positive identification made on the remains as of yet, but the evidence has been submitted to the OSBI lab for analysis.
When asked if the remains could be those of Christina Green, a resident of Beckham County who went missing from her home west of Sayre in August of 2015, Manning said he couldn’t speculate until he’d received more information from the OSBI.
Manning does say the focus right now is to carefully move the investigation forward.
