By Paragon News Director Paul Joseph –

Friday is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the August 28 Runoff Primary Election.

Washita County Election Board Secretary Leah Jones says persons who are US citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 18 years old may apply to become registered voters. She adds that those who aren’t registered or need to change their registration may apply by filling out and mailing an Oklahoma Voter Registration Application form in time for it to be postmarked no later then midnight this Friday night.

She says that applications postmarked after that will still be accepted and processed, but not until after the August 28 election.

Roger Mills County Election Board Secretary Jana Maddux encourages voters who want to have absentee ballots mailed to them for the August 28 Runoff Primary Election should apply soon.

Although each county election board can accept applications for absentee ballots until 5 pm on Wednesday, August 22, Maddux urges all voters who want to vote by absentee ballot to apply early.

She says that at least two mail transactions must be made. First, the election board must mail the ballot to the voter and then the voter must return the voted-on ballots back to the election board office by mail and those ballots must be in the hand of election board officials by 7 pm on Election Day.

Any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot in any election in which the voter is eligible to vote and it’s not necessary to give a reason for voting absentee.
