SWOSU Student Makes Washington DC Presentation

A SWOSU student recently presented research findings in Washington, D.C.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University student Tommy Crews of El Reno was one of 12 students from across the nation was selected to make a presention.

According to a SWOSU release, Crews presented NASA-sponsored research to the recent National Council of Space Grant Directors meeting in the US Capital city.

Among those present at the conference were Dr. John Holden, former director of the White House Office of Science and Technology and policy and senior advisor to the President, and Mike Kincaid, NASA associate administrator for education.

Crews, an Okarche High School graduate, has a Bachelor’s degree in computer science from SWOSU and is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Business Administration on the Weatherford campus.

In the summer of 2017, Crews worked with NASA engineers at Marshall Space Flight Center to develop flight software for the Space Launch System, a rocket that will carry a man to Mars. He has also served as the technical lead of past SWOSU undergraduate research with NASA and has participated in other research and workforce development activities with the university.

Crews’ attendance at the Washington, D.C., meeting was sponsored by the NASA Oklahoma Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) and supported by the Everett Dobson School of Business and Technology at SWOSU.
