Shots were fired and an injured suspect from an armed robbery in Dallas was arrested on Interstate 40 east of Hydro.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, OnStar reported to the OHP about 6:35 Thursday night that a Chevrolet Silverado pick up, which was reported stolen in an aggravated robbery in the Dallas area, was traveling westbound toward Western Oklahoma and the Eastern Texas Panhandle.

An OHP trooper, Russell Boswell heard the dispatch report of the incident and spotted the vehicle while sitting stationary along I-40 about 12 miles east of the Hydro exit/2 miles west of the Hinton exit in Caddo County.

Boswell made the stop on the vehicle.

A short time later, the trooper advised OHP dispatchers that shots had been fired and the suspect from the stolen vehicle was injured. Early reports say the suspect pulled a gun on the trooper before being shot. Paramedics rushed the driver to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where its reported that the suspect underwent surgery and remains there in ICU. The trooper wasn’t hurt and there were no other passengers in the pick up, according to reports.

At some point, police officers from Hydro and Hinton arrived on the scene.

It’s not known the extent of his injuries nor has his identity been released. It’s also not clear whether the suspect fired his weapon, however, a firearm was recovered from the vehicle during the initial investigation.

Officials with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are additionally investigating.
