Registered voters who want to vote by absentee ballot in the upcoming November 14 Special Elections in Western Oklahoma have two options according to County Election Officials.
Deidre O’Briant, Election Board Secretary for Beckham County, explained that voters have until 5:00 pm Wednesday, November 8 to apply for an absentee ballot to be mailed to them. The other option is to cast an absentee ballot at the Election Board office on Thursday, November 9, or Friday, November 10.
On November 14, there are elections for the City of Clinton, the City of Elk City and for the Sentinel School District.
In Clinton, there will be an election for Ward 3, City Council and the following precincts will be open that day, First Baptist Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Clinton City Hall.
In Elk City, voters will be casting ballots to approve the PSO franchise proposition. Only voters who are registered at an address located within the municipal boundaries of the city will be eligible to vote on the PSO franchise proposal.
On the same day, voters of the Sentinel School District – which covers parts of three counties – will be presented with a proposition concerning the formation of a 522 Ambulance District. It’s also known as an Emergency Medical Services District and will be used to pay for ambulance service for the Sentinel area.
O’Briant says Election Board officials must have a written request from the voter in order to mail an absentee ballot.
She says application forms are available at any of the County Election Board offices or voters may now apply online at www.elections.ok.gov.
O’Briant explained that once the application or letter is received by the Election Board, the voter’s eligibility is verified and then a ballot will be mailed out. Voted absentee ballots must be returned by mail and received by the Election Board no later than Election Day in order to be counted.
If you have questions about absentee voting in this election, contact your local County Election Board office.
