A man in Erick was beaten twice in consecutive nights following a dispute over money.
The suspect believed the victim was holding back money due him following the sale of a trailer. The two were to split the proceeds.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Erick police were called to Motel 6 in Erick located on the north side of Interstate 40.
When they arrived, they found a non-responsive, unconscious subject in the roadway near the motel. When the victim regained consciousness, he told police he had been in a fight with 32-year-old Devin Lance Nash over the proceeds of a trailer when Nash allegedly struck him knocking him unconscious, but Nash couldn’t be found.
The next night, police were, again, dispatched to the same hotel about the same time of the day for yet another altercation with the same two men.
When police arrived, officers shouted for the two men to get on the ground, but – instead – both men continued yelling and screaming at officers. After the officer pulled his tazer, the men complied with the command.
Both were found to be bleeding.
The victim told police that Nash had come to the motel to fight him over the trailer and money and added that Nash had allegedly attempted to run him over in a Dodge pickup. That’s when the victim hit the pickup’s windshield with a shovel, shattering it. Nash responded by allegedly hitting the victim with a pipe from a wooden box off the back of the vehicle.
Nash later told police that he and the victim had an agreement on selling the trailer and the other man was to give Nash most of the money, but only gave him a partial amount. He believed the victim had lied about how much he’d sold the trailer for and felt he was holding on to more money that what he’d said.
Nash is out of jail on a $15-hundred dollar bond and due back in court for a preliminary hearing on November 7.
