By Paul Joseph, Paragon Communications News Director –

A blood center in Texas and the Oklahoma blood center are working to align their operations together.

In a recent announcement by the two blood organizations, Coffee Memorial Blood Center in Amarillo and the Oklahoma Blood Institute says they’re working toward alignment to “enable transparent communications with community and business leaders who will be vital to the continued success of the blood centers.”

According to Coffee Memorial’s President and CEO, Joe McCormick, the alignment will enable Coffee Memorial to continue to serve medical facilities throughout the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas region to save lives in the midst of a rapidly evolving medical climate.

McCormick also says in order to sustain an independent, locally-focused, nonprofit blood center, his organization needs to transition to this new approach to operation and that with OBI’s proximity to Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle, OBI’s exceptional standards and community commitment, they seem to be a great fit.

Coffee Memorial Blood Center will continue to operate with its established name and maintain a local board of directors, according to the recent release. McCormick said that while the two centers still have work to do to shape the new arrangement, blood donors and hospitals will likely see ‘business as usual.’  He emphasized that in the midst of change, the need for blood for Texas patients remains a certainty.

For more than 67 years, Coffee Memorial Blood Center (originally Potter County Memorial Blood Center) has exclusively served medical facilities in the panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas.
