Texas Troopers have been active on the Interstate arresting three people in two separate drug seizures.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized nearly 12 pounds of methamphetamine on Saturday after a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle in Carson County.
Approximately 2:30 pm, a DPS Trooper stopped a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, traveling east on I-40 near Conway, for a traffic violation. The Trooper then allegedly discovered several packages of methamphetamine wrapped in cardboard and plastic inside the vehicle. The illegal drugs are worth more than $1 million.
26-year-old Gilberto Mendoza Corona and 47-year-old Lucila Cruz, both of Eureka, California, were arrested and charged with felony possession of a dangerous drug. They were transported and booked into the Carson County jail.
The drugs allegedly were being transported from Eureka, California, to Oklahoma City.
Yesterday, a Texas trooper seized 113 pounds of marijuana following a traffic stop in Oldham County near Vega, also on Interstate 40. 22-year-old Marcus Vargus of Van Vleck, Texas was arrested and booked into jail for allegedly trafficking approximately 685-thousand dollars of illegal drugs.
The marijuana was allegedly being transported from California to Texas.
