A lack of revenue for health programs in Washita County is taking it’s toll on the WIC Program.
Washita County Health Services is discontinuing the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, known as WIC.
According to the CEO of Cordell Memorial Hospital, Landon Hise, he had no choice but to pull the plug. Hise says it’s all due to budget cuts.
Usually offered every Wednesday, the last day for these services is September 27. He says he informed the Washita County Commissioners two weeks ago and his hospital governing board voted to discontinue the program two days later.
WIC services are usually provided by county health departments.
Residents are totally out of luck, however. Hise says they can still get the offerings from any of the other surrounding counties adding that if county sales taxes come back, he’d consider resuming the program in Washita County.
