The murder trial date for Kathryn Lynn Hicks has been set for late March.
The jury trial date was set Friday morning for the 45-year-old Hicks of Lawton as she appeared in Washita County District Court for pre-trial motions.
Hicks is charged with murder in the first degree, malice aforethought in the 2015 murder of 59-year-old Michael Beach of Cordell.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Beach was found dead by Cordell police at his home in Cordell on November 30 last year after having been shot twice with a 9-millimeter hand gun. A friend had not heard from the 59-year-old for several days and called police for a welfare check.
Coincidently, a 9-millimeter live round was allegedly later found in Hicks’ purse.
The court document says Hicks and Beach met on Craig’s List, a classified, advertisement website in June of this year. Though Hicks told investigators that that their relationship was not sexual, Beach would introduce Hicks as his girlfriend.
After moving in with Hicks for about a one month, Beach put her name on his bank account, retirement and will as the beneficiary. But, in early November, Beach and Hicks had – what the affidavit called – a “falling out.”
At some point during the month of November, Hicks moved out of Beach’s house and into one in Oklahoma City. Hicks was arrested at that location on December 4 of 2015.
Her trail is set for Tuesday, March 28 at 9:30 am.
