A Clinton man is in critical condition following a Wednesday afternoon head-on accident on a state highway.

38-year-old Bryan Howard Baxter was air transported to an Oklahoma City hospital with head, internal and arm injuries suffered in a two vehicle accident in Blaine County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Baxter was westbound on State Highway 33, about 9 miles east of Watonga when his vehicle crossed the center line for an unknown reason and struck another vehicle, head-on.

Baxter’s 2004 Ford Ranger hit a 2009 Ford F-350 driven by 54-year-old Kyle Dwayne Tapp of Ponca City. A passenger in Tapp’s vehicle, 27-year-old Leslie Daniel Banner, also of Ponca City – along with Tapp – were both treated and released from Kingfisher Mercy Hospital in Kingfisher.

After the collision, Baxter’s Ranger departed the roadway and rolled, once, coming to rest back on its wheels. Tapp’s vehicle departed the roadway, but remained upright on its wheels.

The accident happened around 5:15 on State Highway 33 about a tenth of a mile east of county road north/south 2660.

The cause of the collision was failure to keep right in meeting.

No one was wearing a seatbelt.
