By Paul Joseph, Paragon Communications News Director –

The falconers and their falcons have swooped into Western Oklahoma.

It’s the annual field meet of the largest falcon association in the world, the North American Falconers Association and Elk City is host this week – since Sunday – to the largest attendance in recent memory with approximately 250 falconers. And each falconer has at least one bird of prey.

Falcons have exceptional powers of vision; the visual acuity of one species has been measured at 2.6 times that of a normal human. Some falcons have recorded diving at speeds of 200 miles per hour, making them the fastest-moving creatures on earth.

Daniel Scrivener of Gilbert, Arizona is still getting to know his bird. He just got her and this is their first field meet.

Falconers are especially excited this week as they celebrate, today, the 4th “World Falconry Day 2016.” It’s the anniversary of the recognition of falconry.

The falconers with their beautiful birds of prey will be in Elk City through Friday.
