Cordell Memorial is giving the community a double barrel of wellness and newness in Washita County.
Cordell Memorial’s 27th annual health fair is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday.
The yearly event provides reduced-cost exams for attendees who might not otherwise receive vital health screenings.
Landon Hise, Cordell Memorial’s CEO says the hospital is offering several different exams at low cost for area residents, some of which could potentially save lives.
He says these exams will look for indicators of anemia, as well as ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, and colorectal cancer. Other exams will check thyroid and Vitamin D levels to ensure healthy bones.
A Cardiac CRP assesses the risk of cardiovascular and peripheral vascular disease, and a CT lung cancer screening test will be offered.
Additionally, a calcium scoring test, called a heart scan, measures the amount of calcium in coronary arteries, an excessive amount of which could lead to a heart attack.
After receiving their cardiac test results, individuals are encouraged to follow up with board certified cardiologist Dr. Chandra. Hise says heart and lung scans need to be scheduled ahead of time.
Hise is excited about the renovations and invites people to pop into the hospital and view the results of a year-long, $3 million renovation project.
Hise says it feels and looks like a new hospital.
Hise says the renovations help Cordell Memorial Hospital advance its mission of providing the best health care possible for the community, and the health fair is a great opportunity to share the upgrades with the public.
He believes the upgrades throughout the hospital will help increase efficiency and comfort for patients.
He admits that the renovations look fabulous, but he’s most proud of what the renovations, new equipment and design provides for the people working inside. That’s what strikes him most.
Hise says visitors to the hospital may not see the efficiency that the renovations provide for, but they will see its new sleek lines, amenities and fresh new paint.
The annual health fair is scheduled for Monday through Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to noon each day.
