An Altus man is recuperating in an area hospital after jumping from a disabled ATV.
70-year-old Darryl Smith is in stable condition with back injuries in Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus after jumping from a 2013 ATV as it traveled across a field on his private property.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, the vehicle’s accelerator became stuck. The ATV continued traveling across the field after Smith jumped for about 40 feet before overturning one and three-quarter times.
The accident happened last night about 6:40 near County Road 156 and County Road 209, about 7-tenths of a mile north of Navajo School in Jackson County.
