An Elk City man who’s been on probation after pleading guilty to a 2011 felony has been arrested on a Methamphetamine possession charge.

In June, prosecutors applied to accelerate the deferred sentence of 30-year-old Danny Ray Cooksey after he was arrested in March for knowingly concealing stolen property and trespassing in Roger Mills County.   A month later, Cooksey was arrested in Elk City on a bench warrant after he failed to appear in Roger Mills District Court for his attorney date on April 5.  The judge – at that time – ordered the forfeiture of his bond and ordered a new bond of $15-thousand dollars, double the first one.

He has new troubles, now.

Just before 8 am on Monday morning, Elk City Police were on patrol near a motel on east Hwy 66 that was closed for renovations and observed a man, later identified as Cooksey, in the doorway of one of the rooms. Cooksey bolted when he saw police and was tracked down near the intersection of Eastern and Aspen street after jumping a couple fences and running through a couple back yards.

According to the police report, when he was cuffed, the officer allegedly found a small metallic container with a white, crystal-like substance along with a small, white plastic bottle that also contained a white substance.

The report says the substances later showed positive results for the presence of methamphetamine.

He was additionally arrested for trespassing and obstructing an officer and was also found to have four warrants for his arrest.

No court date has yet been set on the latest arrest.
