The process of pumping water for Clinton from the Canute water wells is on track and officials believe the first water could be sent to Clinton very soon.

Water Project Manager for the City of Clinton, Lonnie Teel is excited about the prospect that’s pumping as much as 684-thousand gallons of water into Clinton Lake.

Getting the wells drilled, built and flowing has been a two-year long process. Former Clinton City manager Steve Hewitt brought the idea to the Clinton City Council in March of 2014.  Teel says it’s close to becoming a reality.

He says the flow from the Canute wells is down to about 507-thousand gallons a day, now, which is just above the “Clinton-Canute” agreed amount of 500-thousand gallons.

The wells were drilled by the Town of Canute and are located in Washita County. a seven-mile pipeline was installed by Clinton to bring the water to Clinton Lake.

Teel believes it could be the later part of this week or next week when the first water could flow to Clinton.

As for right now, he says everything looks good.

Soon, the water from the Canute wells will be held separately from the lake water and not commingled because it won’t need to be process through the Clinton Lake treatment plant.

A “T” connection is being built through which water can be fed into a 24-inch water line carrying treated water from the lake to Clinton. Building a new water treatment plant is next on the water project schedule and when it’s finished, the water will go through that facility.

Blueprints for the proposed water treatment plant are in the hands of the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality for their review and approval.
