Wheeler County Sheriff Wes Crites urges parents, families and friends to continue to be on the lookout for a couple of vehicles whose drivers are believed to have attempted abductions of children.
Crites believes the people associated with the two, separate instances are probably long gone out of the Eastern Texas Panhandle communities.
The two attempts in Wheeler County prompted the sheriff’s office to put a notice out on social media to parents and families of young people.
The social media, Facebook, was used in notifying county residents and others in the area asking viewers to “please make sure that your children are aware of their surroundings, know where your children are at and what they are doing and make sure your children know how to contact you and the Sheriff’s Office.”
Crites says that one attempt was for a child and another was for a teenager and that the attempts were in two separate cities in the county.
The sheriff’s department “vehicle description” on Facebook was that the truck could have been a semi.
Based upon his years of experience in law enforcement, Crites believes the two have high-tailed it out of the area, though residents still need to be observant.
Those that may see suspicious activity or vehicles matching the description of those mentioned are urged to call the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office at 806-826-5537.
