A Clinton man was arrested in Weatherford recently after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 18-year-old Craton John Nation Evans was arrested June 15 in Weatherford and is suspected of choking and punching his ex-girlfriend.

The court document stated that police were dispatched to a possible verbal domestic disturbance in the 200 block of South Kansas Street in Weatherford. Police were advised that someone had left the property and had received a description of the vehicle. A short time later police were able to locate the vehicle, make a traffic stop, and find Evans in the vehicle. When asked about the incident that took place at the home, Evans told police that his girlfriend had become upset due to a cell phone the couple had shared was not fully charged. Evans claimed that she had slapped Evans and would grab a knife. He told police that she threatened him with the knife and would later threaten to kill herself.

At a separate location, police were able to locate the woman and ask her her side of the story. The report stated that her account of the story was conflicting with the suspect’s. The document stated that she claims the couple had broken up and this had upset Evans. The woman told police that Evans allegedly became violent by pulling her hair, punching her several times, and grabbing the woman by her throat and began to choke her.

Evans was arrested and transported to the Weatherford City Jail. He was later transported to the Custer County Jail.

Evans was charged with one count of domestic assault and battery by strangulation – a felony. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 6.
