With unemployment spiking throughout out the country, there has also been a spike of unemployment assistance fraud.

Oklahoma, along with many other states, is no stranger to the fraudulent claims and apparently the scam is occurring in western Oklahoma as well.

According to the Clinton Daily News, the Clinton Police Department has seen a rash of unemployment fraud reports. In fact, Elk City Police Chief Eddie Holland has been notified that he has become a victim.

Holland added that Sayre Public School employees may have also been targeted.

Oklahoma Attorney General Mike Hunter announced in a press release recently that his office has developed a resource to help process unemployment fraud claims.

Individuals or businesses that receive bogus claims are asked to fill out a new form on the attorney general’s website, where the claim will then be directed to the proper law enforcement agency.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has created a task force to investigate the fraudulent claims.
