A high speed pursuit that originated in Weatherford early Monday morning saw the suspect allegedly firing a gun at authorities. The dramatic event started just after midnight when a Weatherford Police Officer attempted to stop a vehicle east bound on Interstate 40 for an improperly displayed tag. The vehicle refused to stop for the officer, and would ultimately lead multiple departments that included not only the Weatherford Police Department, but also the Custer County Sherriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Hinton Police Department, Canadian County Sheriff’s Office and the El Reno Police Department on a high speed pursuit through multiple counties on I-40.
While the pursuit was still east bound on I-40, the suspects began firing a gun at pursuing officers. A deputy’s patrol vehicle was struck by the gunfire in the windshield. The suspects would fire at pursuing officers throughout the rest of the chase.
Once the pursuit reached the Oklahoma City metro area, the Oklahoma City Police Department also provided assistance with ground and air units in the pursuit.
The pursuit ended near Seminole when the suspect vehicle ran out of gas. A female passenger was taken into custody and arrested on an outstanding warrant. The driver of the vehicle fled into the woods, however agencies involved set a perimeter around the area and the male suspect was taken into custody around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
It was later determined that the vehicle the suspects occupied was reported stolen out of Cache.
The names of the suspects were not released, and charges are pending.
