Numbers remain unchanged for the area for cumulative cases of COVID-19.

However, the state has seen an increase of 130 cases, bringing the cumulative count to 3,410. According to the Oklahoma State Department of Health, 10 additional deaths are being added to the state’s death count, but none of those deaths occurred within the last 24 hours. The state’s death count now stands at 207.

Locally Greer County remains with 64 cumulative cases, Jackson with 15, Custer has 10, Beckham has 5, and Kiowa still with 4.

Harmon, Washita, and Roger Mills Counties are still without a case.

Currently there are 288 Oklahomans hospitalized due to COVID-19. That number is down 18 when compared to Monday.

The actual number of infections is thought to be far higher because many people have not been tested and studies suggest that people can be infected without feeling sick. Most people recover from the illness.

Public Affairs Officer for the Oklahoma National Guard Colonel Tom Ivester, who has been a part of Governor Kevin Stitt’s task force addressing the pandemic, says the good news is that the death count in the state is at a low number.

Gov. Kevin Stitt has cited declines in the number of new cases and reduced hospitalizations as reasons for allowing personal care businesses, such as barber shops and hair salons, to reopen under social distancing and health safety guidelines.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia.
