Thirty-eight high school and college jazz bands – one of the largest groups in the history of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Jazz Festival – will participate in the 50th annual festival on Friday, February 7, as part of the SWOSU Jazz Festival activities on the Weatherford campus.
According to a press release from the university, the public is invited to the free performances of the high school and college bands that feature local high school bands including Elk City, Clinton and Cordell.
The golden anniversary of the SWOSU Jazz Festival will have Friday concerts at 1 and 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center on the SWOSU campus. Featured guest this year is the world-renowned Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band of California.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert featuring the entire Big Phat Band and for the 1 p.m. concert also featuring Goodwin, members of the Big Phat Band and the SWOSU Jazz A band are available at swosujazz.com. Additional info is available at the SWOSU Music Office, Room 100, in the Fine Arts Center.
