Claiming he saved a home-owner from someone trying to burglarize the home-owner’s residence, a Sayre man has found himself in jail accused of that very thing.

34-year-old Johnathon Heath Curtis is sitting in the Beckham County Detention Facility today on a $25-thousand dollar bond after allegedly surprising the home-owner and then fighting him. Both ended up in Great Plains Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the two fought about 25 minutes until a Beckham County Deputy arrived at the home located on East 1270 road in Beckham County. The call was to an assault and battery and burglary in progress.

The deputy found the two covered in blood. The deputy was told that Curtis was attempting to burglarized the home and that’s when the altercation took place between the two men.

The home-owner later told the deputy that when he arrived home, he found Curtis inside. He tried to talk to Curtis who told said he saved the home-owner from someone else trying to burglarize the home. When Curtis was told he was lying, the fight ensued. The home-owner later told the detective he thought Curtis was under the influence of some substance.

Inside a vehicle on the property, sheriff’s deputies found a small television, PlayStation, game controller and a black light.

Curtis has been charged with burglary in the second degree and assault and battery.

Later, in jail, Curtis is believed to have assaulted a different deputy. He’s been additionally charged with battery/assault and battery on a police officer and is due in Beckham County District Court January 13 for a preliminary hearing conference.
