A Caddo County man is in jail for allegedly burglarizing a Weatherford business while high on methamphetamine.

27-year-old Treston Don Purdon of Hinton is in the Custer County Jail on bonds totaling $24-thousand dollars including a $20-thousand bond for the alleged burglary committed back in February.

Purdon, along with another man who has not been charged in the crime, were cited in a probable cause affidavit for their involvement in the burglary of the Red Dirt Pawn Shop. During an interview, Purdon allegedly confessed to the burglary after he initially implicated another man as the burglar saying that it was he, Purdon, that had shattered the window of the building and the glass cases inside with a hammer.

He told police that he needed money to pay bills, but it was the other man’s idea to burglarize the pawn shop.

The items allegedly stolen include two BB guns and costume jewelry, all valued at more than $700 dollars. Damage to the building is estimated at $38-hundred dollars.

A witness told police that he’d heard a dog barking and noticed someone run through his yard where he tripped and fell while carrying something in both arms, adding that a car was parked nearby that pulled onto east Main Street in Weatherford. The witness said that – while he was watching – he saw a police cruiser begin to follow the suspect vehicle.

Purdon is charged with 2nd degree burglary after former conviction of two or more felonies and conspiracy to commit a felony and due in court on August 9 for a preliminary hearing conference.
