An event celebrating the Mother Road, Route 66, is planned for this weekend in Elk City and organizers believe it’ll be very successful as it blends two popular previous events into the new one.

Susie Cupp, the Executive Director of the Elk City Chamber of Commerce says they’d been doing the Red Bud Festival four of five years, a very successful event, but outside influences required some changes. Cupp decided to merge the festival with another event, Route 66 Days.

Activities will start Friday with a block party in downtown Elk City followed by the Route 66 festival, also in down town.

She says with double the events, it will be a double success.

The block party runs Friday night from 6 to 9 pm, located behind First National Bank with live music from Rival Magnetics. Participating downtown merchants will be open until 8 with pop up vendors, community art projects and inflatables along with food vendors.

On Saturday, the Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show will be held from 9 to 4 as well as more food vendors and garage sales throughout the city.

Cupp says addresses are published in both city-wide newspapers on on the Chamber’s Facebook page.
