By Paragon News Director Paul Joseph –

The Clinton City Council quickly confronted a collapsed sewer main from recent thunderstorms by accepting a repair bid during an emergency meeting.

City Manager Mark Skiles says he became aware that there was an issue the middle part of last week, but the severe thunderstorm Saturday night upped the urgency forcing the special meeting last night at 5:30. The line is deep and large and is located near the waste water treatment plant east of Clinton and on the north side of I-40.

He says as the city was addressing the problem, another collapse on that same line was found near the first one, but at the end of it on the campus of the waste water plant.

The bid came in on Tuesday morning and the city called an emergency meeting Tuesday night accepting the bid from IGO, Inc. in the amount of $170-thousand dollars.

Skiles says this type of collapse requires experienced contractors as it’s so deep and large, besides being a risk to the public. The line is 27-inches in diameter.

Skiles says IGO, Inc was already on site Tuesday night following the emergency meeting beginning some excavating of the area in anticipation of getting started.

He thinks they’ll have all the materials and will began the actual construction and repair Friday or Saturday.
