A Mangum man has been recuperating in an Oklahoma City hospital following an accident on a state highway in Roger Mills County.
50-year-old Charles Douglas Smith has been in Integris Southwest Medical Center suffering from internal injuries after the 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 truck departed State Highway 34 and struck a culvert.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol accident report, the cause of the collision was being sleepy. The accident happened about 7:11 on Tuesday night about 7 miles south of Harmon. The report says Smith failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the roadway to the left.
A passenger in his truck, 46-year-old Skipper Ray Ritter, also of Mangum, was not injured in the mishap.
Neither men were wearing a seat belt, according to the report.
