The Clinton Chamber of Commerce is hosting a day-long festival this weekend to pay homage to the Mother Road, Route 66.
It’s the 11th Annual Route 66 Festival in downtown Clinton on Saturday starting at 10 am.
Julie Burden says the purpose of the festival is to acknowledge the value of the national road that begins in Chicago ending in LA. She says Western Oklahomans owe much of our resources and history to that old black top, much of which still exists today.
She says there’ll be live music on two different stages and they’re bringing back last year’s big hit: a specialty eating contest.
The festival will all be on Frisco Avenue in downtown Clinton before moving to the miniature golf course at McLain Rogers Park at 4 pm for other festivities.
Oklahoma Blood Institute is hosting a blood drive during the festival from 10 to 3 with a number of free give-aways to donors including pork carnitas and a chance to win a new smoker and BBQ starter kit and concert tickets to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Other attractions include a variety show with performers from the Southwest Playhouse and an expanded poker run from 11 to 5 pm.
