By Paragon News Director Paul Joseph –

County Assessors are notifying property owners that received storm damage from the recent severe weather that they their property can be reassessed due to the damage.

Beckham County’s Assessor Jonathan Beck says Oklahoma statutes provide for the reassessment to lower an owner’s Fair Market Value to reflect the loss due to the damage sustained by storms and these damages can include flooding and wind damage.

Beck says as long as the damage is done naturally, a property owner can ask for the reassessment.

He says his office has dealt with several requests for reassessment already.

Beck says any damage counts and doesn’t need to meet any minimum damage threshold and even damages of $1-thousand dollars will trigger the reassessment.

He says the statute covers both improvements and personal property like tractors, combines, business machinery and business inventories.

For a reassessment, Beck says call your local county assessor.
