The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a trooper involved shooting in Western Oklahoma that occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Around 12:30 am, within the City of Blair, the trooper performed a routine traffic stop on a driver later identified as 34-year-old Chris Ryan Mills of Altus. Mills was allegedly operating his vehicle with a revoked license.

While attempting to place the driver in custody for the offense, he became combative and in the course of the altercation, the driver was shot as the trooper discharged his firearm.

Immediately following the incident, the trooper provided medical treatment until emergency services arrived. The victim was air transported to OU Medical Center where he was later listed in stable condition.

A check of Mills previous charges revealed that has nine prior felony convictions including assault and battery on a police officer, threatening to perform an act of violence and a Jackson County felony DUI in 2018 for which he is currently serving supervised probation.

The OHP investigative unit processed the scene and are continuing their investigation into the incident.

The trooper has been placed on department-mandated administrative leave during the investigation, pending the outcome of the investigation.
